Monday 5th July
Day 2
05/07/04 Possibly the low point of the journey was Heather's projectile vomiting on the crowded bus to Piraeus. Followed by being ripped off when buying ferry tickets. Tip: never buy tickets from Greeks who seem unnaturally good at English.Heather, sitting in Luton airport: "We haven't seen anyone we know yet."
04/07/04 Day 1 (again)
Brian: I'm not going to do 2 entries as it has felt like one long day, mainly due to lack of sleep.
(It would seem that Heather's weak stomach can not cope with unrhing AND retaining its contents - she will continue ashore)
Journey seemed to take for ever, thanks to the crazed Greek bus driver. Athens, from what we saw (as it was dark) was in a bit of a state of disrepair - I'm not entirely convinced it'll be ready for the olympics. Piraeus didn't seem to have any road markings so it was funderrifying to get on the ferry without getting hit.
Arriving in Samos was pretty amazing - it got everything, really - mountains, white houses, rolles, waves, sun and so many little tavernas. They managed to get a good balance between touristy and quaint.
The hostel is really nice - new, quite amazing and we just had a lovely dinner (cheap too!) whilst watching the sun set over the sea.
I'm sure Brian will comment on this more thoughtfully, but I'm looking forward to tomorrow's search for sand.
More "thoughtfully"?? well, I'm not a great one for poignant sunsets - but I suppose I could go for something along the lines of the sunsetting on our first great day... etc etc (We went swimming today too. Well, Heather refused to go in over her lower ankle, but I did)
